Construction on the 450-acre reservoir began in 2008, and the dam was completed in August 2009. The Horse Thief Reservoir is a site for recreational activities and also serves as a flood retention facility. The facility opened in June of 2010.
Camping, boating, skiing, swimming, picnicking, fishing. and hunting are just some of the great opportunities that are enjoyed at the Reservoir. The camping area has 42 camping sites with water and electric. A primitive camping area is also available. The camping area has a very nice shower and restroom facility located in the middle of all the camping area.
