Dodge City Celebrates National Day of the Cowboy
The 15th annual National Day of the Cowboy is a day set aside by the US Senate to pay homage to our Cowboy and Western heritage, as well as to honor working Cowboys and Cowgirls. Locally, this coincides with Dodge City Days, a time when we are already honoring our western heritage and all that this community was founded upon.
With 15 states passing the bill in support of National Day of the Cowboy, Kansas being the 8th state. Each year the 4th Saturday in July is an honor for the outstanding contribution to the western heritage lifestyle and those who continue to honor it. The National Day of the Cowboy organization keeps to 10 points of the Cowboy Code of Conduct:
1- Live each day with honesty and courage.
2- Take pride in your work. Always do your best.
3- Stay curious. Study hard and learn all you can.
4- Do what has to be done and finish what you start.
5- Be tough but fair.
6- When you make a promise, keep it.
7- Be clean in thought, word, deed, and dress.
8- Practice tolerance & understanding of others.
9- Be willing to stand up for what’s right.
10- Be an excellent steward of the land and its animals.
This year for National Day of the Cowboy Dodge City will observe the July 27, 2019 date with flags throughout the community the week of Dodge City Days. Dodge City will also welcome Executive Director & Publisher of National Day of the Cowboy Bethany Braley along with Brent and Janet Slutsky representatives of National Day of Cowboy during our celebration. The Dodge City Drovers will be hosting them on their parade float on the morning of Saturday, July 27.
