Dodge City Convention & Visitors Bureau: Annual Pheasant Hunting Contests Prize Announcement
The Dodge City Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is thrilled to announce the conclusion of the 2020/2021 Bounty Bird and Rooster Roundup Pheasant Hunting Contests with a record-breaking return of bird bands! The CVB ran these two separate hunting contests simultaneously in Ford County during the recent pheasant season which concluded on January 31st.
Out of the 150 banded birds released for the 2020/2021 season, 39 Bounty Bird and 23 Rooster Roundup contest birds were “bagged” and registered. Combined for the two contests, registered bands represented hunters from ten states and seventeen cities, with the furthest hunter traveling roughly 1,035 miles.
On February 5th, the Dodge City CVB drew a winner for the Rooster Roundup contest on a Facebook video broadcast on the CVB Facebook page (@visitdodgecity) and shared onto the Wild West Country Facebook Page (@wildwestcountry). The winner of the Dodge City / Ford County 2020-2021 Rooster Roundup Contest is Douglas Cofer of Cimarron Kansas. Douglas received $500 in Dodge City Area Chamber of Commerce Chamber Bucks. Prize distribution for the Bounty Bird Contest occurred in February.
There is no cost to enter either contest and all licensed hunters were welcome to participate and collect prizes. The Bounty Bird Contest took place in Ford County only, with prizes valued at $14-$200 generously donated by one of our many local sponsors listed below. The Rooster Roundup contest took place in seven Southwest Kansas counties including; Ford, Finney, Gray, Hodgeman, Hugoton, Morton, and Seward. Each county awarded a grand prize worth $500 to their drawn winner.
By registering their band(s) at the Dodge City Visitor Information Center, hunters received a Rooster Roundup hat and either a $20 Free Play Chip courtesy of Boot Hill Casino & Resort or another hunting-related prize (depending upon the registered hunter's age).
