Landmark National Bank invites the public to attend the 26th Annual Landmark Art Show. This year’s art show exhibits the work of Charlie and Pat Norton along with their son, Carson. Charlie specializes in bronze sculptures and paintings depicting the Old West. As a member of the Kansas Cowboy Hall of Fame, Charlie’s work accurately portrays historical events in order to educate younger generations about the past. His work can be found throughout the State of Kansas, including the Buffalo Bill sculpture– one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas - located in Oakley. During the glory days of the soda fountain, Kansas pharmacists created tonics and curatives that evolved into refreshments like the Brown Cow, the Mudslide, and Don’t Care. Mineral springs, World War I luxury taxes, and bottled soda pop played a role in these ice cream concoctions that became a profitable sideline business. This presentation will explore soda fountains in Kansas today and the revival of soda fountains throughout the nation. Presented by Cindy Higgins. Cindy is a journalist and Kansas historian.
